My name is Tamera and I’m hiking the Appalachian Trail.  I went on a river trip down the Grand Canyon in June of 2011 and it was transformative.  What I realized on that trip was that I no longer had to pretend to embrace contemporary values.  I had already been downsizing my life.  I had started my own business and cut back my formal work to part-time status.  I realized that I was in a position to begin to live my dreams.  I didn’t have to own more “stuff.”  I could get rid of the “stuff” I had that wasn’t serving me any longer.  This realization freed me to begin planning for a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail.

Additionally, since I knew that I would be hiking for six months; I figured that I may as well use this opportunity to raise money for my favorite charity.  Flagstaff Shelter Services provides services for homeless individuals residing in Flagstaff, AZ.  Flagstaff Shelter opens in October, and closes its doors for overnight services, in April.  They have recently bought a new building and are looking to expand services.  I couldn’t think of a better local organization to raise money for.

If you would like to donate to help me offset my costs for this hike, please utilize the PayPal button on the site.  If you would like to donate to Flagstaff Shelter Services, please use the donation widget for that.
